We celebrated Peter, Lucy and Zed’s baptisms on Sunday morning. What an amazing service and we got to see three of our young people committing their lives to Jesus and going through the waters of baptism.
Helen, a good friend of the Shaw family for more than 20 years, gave a reading from Isaiah 43:2 and shared a testimony about Lucy and a miraculous healing of a serious illness at the age of 4.
Lucy goes to the Youth meetings on a Thursday and she is also a member of the Tech team.
Zed has been in the church for more than 10 years and is a member of the Worship team. She shared about her family’s trying time with her mum and dad’s illnesses, how stressful this was for her but that during the diagnoses of her Mum’s illness she became closer to God. She said her family also became closer to each other. Zed is thankful to God for giving her the strength to get closer to Him and to her family.
Her scripture verse was from Proverbs 3:
My son [daughter], do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
2 for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.
3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.
Then Peter came forward and gave his testimony. He said that he experienced the Holy Spirit for the first time at the age of 13 and felt that he could never not have a belief in God. He has experienced and seen proof of people around him who have a deep personal faith, giving their lives to God and he knows that prayers do work and that God answers prayers. When he was away from God one of his friends convinced him to start trying again and afterwards he just felt happier and felt that God’s blessing was with him.
He has experienced both sides of being with God and being away from Him and he now is convinced that life without God sucks!
Congratulations from all at the Gatehouse to Peter, Lucy and Zed.
